Recently I bought an HP iPAQ (running Windows Mobile 5) off of eBay, and now I wish I had bought one years ago! Using a text editor or Pocket Word helps me stay on top of my to-do list because I can move items around as their priorities change, and my kids and I are having fun downloading and playing lots of free games.

My nine-year-old daughter (Stephanie) designed this website of Pocket PC utilities and games that we like. We haven't tried every Pocket PC game or utility out there, but these are our favorites so far. We have loosely organized the games into three categories: Action Games, Puzzle Games, and Two-Player Games (i.e. you against the computer).

Handy Utilities

File Explore Extension http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-file-explorer-extension.html A mobile version of Windows Explorer. The screenshot shows different things that this utility can do.
MADE http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-made.html A text editor with handy icons and lots of features. Multiple documents can be opened in tabs.
Magic Button http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx Creates "Task Bar" icons, making it easy to switch between running applications. Also provides an actual Close button for each running application. The pop-up menu provides access to more features.
MSS Converter http://micromeg.free.fr/english/progs.html#MSSConverter Performs a huge number of conversions (weights, measurements, etc.).
MyMobiler http://www.mymobiler.com Allows you to view and control your mobile device on your desktop PC. The screenshot shows the Pocket Sand game (see our Action Games page) running on my PDA and being displayed on our PC using MyMobiler (through ActiveSync).
Pocket e-Sword http://www.e-sword.net/pocketpc A mobile version of the fantastic e-Sword Bible software (http://www.e-sword.net).
SlideIT (demo, $14.99 to buy) http://www.dasur.co.il My kids and I tested out a number of keyboards for the PDA, and SlideIT was far and away our favorite. You simply tap the first letter of a word, then slide the stylus (or your finger) across the screen to touch each letter in the word. This is a fast way to write, and what makes it even faster is that you ignore double letters. For example, you write the word "book" by tapping "b" and sliding to "o" and then to "k". In addition, it's not necessary to be accurate because the program does a great job of determining the correct word even if you don't touch every letter in the word properly. I use SlideIT to take notes in business meetings because I can write quickly and accurately and quietly (without a lot of noisy tapping). Plus, it's a lot of fun to use!
StopTime http://www.dl-c.com/PPC/#StopTime%202.0 A nice stopwatch/timer/alarm utility with lots of options.
TodayAgenda http://tiews.info/index.php?show=software%2Ftodayagenda&lang=en Displays upcoming calendar events on your Today screen. Lots of features.
