Recently I bought an HP iPAQ (running Windows Mobile 5) off of eBay, and now I wish I had bought one years ago! Using a text editor or Pocket Word helps me stay on top of my to-do list because I can move items around as their priorities change, and my kids and I are having fun downloading and playing lots of free games.
My nine-year-old daughter (Stephanie) designed this website of Pocket PC utilities and games that we like. We haven't tried every Pocket PC game or utility out there, but these are our favorites so far. We have loosely organized the games into three categories: Action Games, Puzzle Games, and Two-Player Games (i.e. you against the computer).
For some fun and free PC games, see our Fun, Free Educational Computer Games for Kids website.

3D Pocket Tic-Tac-Toe DeLuxe
http://www.sorosy.com/wince/p3dtttdx/ Play tic-tac-toe against the computer or another person. You can choose regular tic-tac-toe on a 3x3 board, a 4x4 board, etc., up to a 9x9 board. You can also play 3D tic-tac-toe on a 3x3x3, 4x4x4, 5x5x5, or 6x6x6 board. The screenshot shows a 4x4x4 board. |

Battleship
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-battleship-v1-0.html A basic Battleship game. Tap on the question marks in the bottom half of the screen, trying to hit all of the computer's ships before it hits all of yours. |
Chess
http://www.tucows.com/preview/338761 Play chess against the computer or another player. Tap a piece to highlight it, then tap the destination square to move the piece. The computer can provide hints, and games can be saved and loaded in the FEN format. The board can be setup in any initial state. You can play against an opponent over the Internet using MSN Messenger. |
Othello
http://www.teknowmagic.net/othello.html Play Othello/Reversi against the computer or another player. On each move you must tap a square to trap one or more of the computer's pieces between two of your pieces (horizontally or vertically or diagonally). The trapped pieces are flipped over to become your color. When the entire board is filled in, the winner is the player who has the most pieces. If you don't have a legal move then tap the Pass button. |
Pocket Checkers
http://www.teknowmagic.net/checkers.html Play checkers against the computer or another player. To move a piece, drag it to its destination. For a multiple jump, drag the piece to each jump destination in the proper sequence. If you can jump then you must jump. |

Pocket Euchre
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-pocket-euchre-1-4.html Play the Euchre card game against the computer. |
Pocket Hasami
http://www.pocketnew.info/?act=pockethasami Play Hasami shogi against the computer or another player. Drag one of your black pieces any number of spaces horizontally or vertically (like a rook in chess). Try to trap one or more of your opponent's pieces between two of your pieces (horizontally or vertically or diagonally). The trapped pieces are removed from the board. Whoever has less than four pieces on the board is the loser. Press any key to return to the menu. The program seems to have a bug, because when white wins then the program displays "Black Wins" (and vice versa). |

PocketMoku
http://www.rifcomobile.com/products/pocketmoku Play a modified version of Pente against the computer. Use your stylus (or move the cursor with your buttons) to place Xs on an infinite game board, and the computer will place Os. The goal is to get five in a row (horizontally or vertically or diagonally). Unlike Pente, pieces are not removed from the board if they are trapped between two of the opponent's pieces. |

Pocket Rack-O
http://freewareppc.com/games/pocketracko.shtml Play the Rack-O card game against the computer. The cards are numbered from 1 to 60, and the goal is to be the first player to get ten cards in sequence from smaller to larger (e.g. 3, 7, 12, 29, 33, 38, 52, 55, 57, 59). On each turn, tap the face-up card at the bottom of the screen (i.e. the top card in the discard pile) if you can use it, or else tap the face-down card at the bottom of the screen (i.e. the top card in the deck). Then place the card in a slot in your rack by tapping the card which is currently in that slot. The tricky part is that you can't rearrange the cards in your rack, you can only add new cards into the rack. |

Pocket Spades
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=1000 Play the Spades card game against the computer. |
Pocket Uno
http://programaro.ru/en/pocket-pc/pocket-uno Play the Uno card game against the computer. The four-player version is a bit confusing, but the two-player version is fun. The active player is highlighted at the top left corner of the screen. If you play against another human, then on each player's turn the player must tap the "lock" icon at the top right corner of the screen in order to see his or her hand. Tap a card in your hand to select it, then tap the Discard pile (the blue card with the number 2 on it in the screenshot) to play the selected card. When you play a "Change Color" type of card, you must tap the color that you want to change to. When another player plays a "Change Color" type of card, the new color is displayed as the background color of that card. When you have one card left, tap the Discard pile a second time (after playing a card) within three seconds in order to signal "Uno." If you don't do this then you'll automatically get two more cards as a penalty. |
