How to Heal the Sick by the Power of God

Introduction

In the fall of 1999, the Lord told me to join a local Toastmasters club (where you practice giving short speeches, which usually last about 5 minutes each). In Toastmasters, each speech that you give is designed to help you work on a different aspect of public speaking, such as using gestures, pausing for effect, and so on. For each speech, I felt that the Lord was prompting me with something specific to speak on. Toastmasters is not a Christian organization, so it was a bold step to speak on a Christian subject such as this. However, I did it in obedience to the Lord and it is already bearing fruit in people's lives. Be bold for the Lord!

This 5-minute speech explains how to see healing miracles by the power of God.

The 5-Minute Speech

This is something that I believe, and you might find it fascinating!

First, imagine that a friend at work says to you in the hall, "Will you pray for me? I have cancer." Many of us would say, "Yes, I will pray for you." Then we'd go back to our desk and pray, or maybe we'd wait until we get home to pray, right? But in the Bible, there's not a single example of Jesus or anyone else ever going away from a sick person and praying for them. Not one example! [1] Most of us are not praying for healing the way they did it back then, and most of us are not seeing the miracles that they saw. Maybe there's a connection!

Now, see if you can spot the secret to miracles. Watch! Jesus is hungry, and He sees a fig tree in full bloom. But when He gets to it, there's no figs! So Jesus said to the tree, "May you never bear fruit again," and that fig tree shriveled up and died. Did you catch that? Now watch what Jesus said to His disciples. Basically He said, "If you have faith, you can command a fig tree to die, and anyone with faith can command this mountain to move"! [2] Anyone with faith can do these things! Another time, Jesus said that if we have faith then we can command a mulberry tree to be planted in the sea. [3]

Okay, He said we can command a mulberry tree and we can command a fig tree. Was Jesus giving us a lesson about gardening? No! He said we can command the mountains to move. Was He telling us to re-arrange mountain ranges? No! Jesus was teaching us principles of faith and authority.

Here's another example. Jesus and the disciples are in a boat. Suddenly a storm rises up, and the boat is about to capsize. Jesus rebuked the wind and the waves, and suddenly it was calm. [4] Faith and authority!

Now, here's how it works in healing. A man brought his demonized boy to Jesus, and Jesus rebuked that demon and commanded it to go. [5] Now, one more. Peter's mother-in-law had a high fever. Jesus rebuked the fever, and it left her! [6] Faith and authority! Notice that Jesus dealt with sickness in the same way that He dealt with demons. He saw sickness as an enemy, and so should we!

See if you can spot the pattern in all of those things: Jesus commanded the fever. He commanded the demon. He commanded the wind and the waves. He commanded the fig tree. He told us to command the mulberry tree. He told us to command the fig tree. He told us to command the mountains to move.

Do you see the pattern? Faith and authority!

On earth, Jesus was the perfect human, He's our ultimate role model, and we are commanded to imitate Him. [7] So what did He do when people came for healing? Usually He laid His hands on them, and He always, always spoke healing for them right there on the spot. [1] Always! But what do we do? We never lay hands on people, we go away and pray for them later! We rarely see miracles because we're not imitating the perfect role model that God has given us!

In my last speech I told you about a guy named Harry, who had cancer. He's a medical doctor, he knew he had cancer. I laid hands on Harry, and I said, "In Jesus' Name, spirit of cancer, I command you to go." Remember the demonized boy? Jesus commanded that demon to go. [5] Now, maybe there was a spirit on Harry, maybe not, but notice that I didn't shout or yell or get goofy. I simply spoke with faith and authority. Then I said, "Cancer, I rebuke you in Jesus' Name." Remember, Jesus rebuked the fever! [6] See that? Faith and authority! Then I said, "I command every cancer cell to die, in Jesus' Name." Remember the fig tree that Jesus cursed and it died? [2] Faith and authority!

Harry went back to his doctor, and there's not a trace of cancer in his body. He was instantly healed, just like back then! That's a medically-verified miracle, simply by imitating our perfect role model. By the way, Harry is now a Christian. That's the whole point of doing miracles, to point people to Jesus!

If you're interested, you can learn more at my website, www.Layhands.com. Remember, Jesus told us to command the mountains in our lives to go. [2][3] That's the key! That's the secret! If you want to see the sick and hurting people around you miraculously healed, simply imitate our perfect role model. Put your hands on them and command those mountains of sickness to go, in His Name, with faith and authority, and I believe that you will see some amazing healing miracles for the glory of the Lord!

Footnotes

[1]. You can easily study every single example of healing in the New Testament by reading my article called Every Example of Healing in the New Testament (http://www.Layhands.com/EveryExampleOfHealing.htm).

[2]. Compare Matthew 21:18-22, Mark 11:12-14, 20-24, Matthew 17:20, and John 14:11-12:
"Early in the morning, as he was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered. When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so quickly?" they asked. Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."" (Matthew 21:18-22)

"The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard him say it." (Mark 11:12-14)

"In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!" "Have faith in God," Jesus answered. "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."" (Mark 11:20-24)

"He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."" (Matthew 17:20)

"Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (John 14:11-12)
[3]. Luke 17:6:
"He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you."" (Luke 17:6)
[4]. Luke 8:22-25:
"One day Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's go over to the other side of the lake." So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. "Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him."" (Luke 8:22-25)
[5]. Mark 9:25:
"When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the evil spirit. "You deaf and mute spirit," he said, "I command you, come out of him and never enter him again."" (Mark 9:25)
[6]. Luke 4:38-39:
"Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them." (Luke 4:38-39)
[7]. See John 14:11-12, 1 John 2:6, Ephesians 5:1-2, 1 Thessalonians 1:6, for example:
"Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (John 14:11-12)

"Whoever claims to live in him must walk [live and act] as Jesus did." (1 John 2:6)

"Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." (Ephesians 5:1-2)

"You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit." (1 Thessalonians 1:6)
